Finalist: Plain English Champion — Best Project 2015

Mercer

Judges’ comment

This was a strong entry. It had a clear description and followed the WriteMark criteria really well, which made it easy for us to read and assess. The goals of your project were clear and quantified well, so success has been easy for you to measure.

We really liked your use of clear, simple infographics to support the content.

We would have liked to read about what happens next. This was an entry for the Best Project, but it would have been even stronger if it had hinted at how the project was viewed by the rest of your organisation. For example, are there any plans to expand or build on the project?

Media statement

At Mercer, our responsibility does not end with managing our customers’ retirement assets — we are also committed to helping improve the financial literacy of our customers.

As one of the Government’s nine KiwiSaver default providers, we are allocated KiwiSaver customers by Inland Revenue. These customers are automatically enrolled into a default investment option which is very conservative, and often they are unaware of this.

With this in mind, we developed The Active Investment Choice communication to help these customers understand investment choice and the options available to them. Choosing the right investment fund can make a huge difference to their KiwiSaver savings come retirement.

We’re very proud that this effort has been recognised in the Plain English Awards.
