The judges praised KidsHealth for creating a clear and trustworthy resource for New Zealand families. The website’s purpose is immediately obvious from the homepage. The content strongly supports this purpose by providing comprehensive, practical health advice in plain language without overwhelming medical jargon.
The judges were impressed by the website’s structure and usability. The three main menu items are simple and logical. Multiple search options give users flexibility. Each page follows a consistent, predictable pattern that helps stressed caregivers find information quickly.
The judges highlighted the excellent use of headings, short paragraphs, and bullet points that make content easy to scan and absorb.
The judges commended the website’s warm, supportive tone and cultural awareness. Medical terms are explained simply using familiar, everyday words. The multimodal approach — including text, video, animation, and audio with captions and transcripts — ensures accessibility for different learning styles and literacy levels. The clean, uncluttered design with purposeful visuals helps readers focus on safety messages.
The evaluation process particularly impressed the judges. The team tested content with representative audiences including public health nurses and whānau with lived experience. This feedback directly shaped improvements, such as culturally sensitive revisions to health information.
The judges noted this is an excellent example of user-centred design that empowers families to make confident, informed decisions about children’s health.
KidsHealth’s central mission is to translate health information into everyday language that parents, caregivers, and whānau across Aotearoa can understand and use with confidence. Clear and trusted information can make all the difference.
We’re a small team working hard to serve communities from all corners of the motu. That means creating content that is easy to read, supported by inclusive illustrations and animations, and available in multiple formats to meet diverse needs.
This recognition reflects our commitment to equity and plain language as tools for better health outcomes. When whānau understand what’s happening with their child’s health, they feel more empowered, less anxious, and get better outcomes.
We’re proud to have won this award. We are grateful for this acknowledgement of the work we do every day to support whānau across Aotearoa.
