Judges’ comments

The judges praised Enliven’s suite of brochures for making complex medical information about primary aldosteronism clear and accessible. The documents use plain words and short sentences to explain medical ideas without losing accuracy. The question-style headings mirror what patients want to know. The content flows logically from explaining the condition through to treatment options.

The judges appreciated the personal, empowering tone created by using ‘you’ throughout. Short paragraphs, white space, and helpful illustrations make the information easy to scan and understand. The Q&A format works well across the documents. Vibrant colours and clear design elements make the brochures feel helpful and engaging rather than clinical.

The judges noted the strong impact of these documents. Patients feel more confident after reading them, and clinicians are rethinking how they communicate. The judges called these brochures excellent examples of effective plain language technical writing and information design.

Media statement

When the team from the CONn Syndrome Screening and Evaluation in Primary Care (CONSEP) trial reached out to Enliven with a request to develop a range of resources specifically designed to assist General Practitioners (GPs) during their interactions with patients in the study, we knew we were up for the task.

Primary Aldosteronism is often undiagnosed. Our goal was to make the complex diagnostic process clear, approachable, and empowering, particularly for culturally and linguistically diverse communities. The impact has been significant.

“I think all the information is good for us and it’s also simple. We also need to know about how this problem can develop in our body… so we can take better care of ourselves.”
– Community Tester

“I like Brochure 2 TABLE. It’s more look good and easier to understand as well. I can explain also my friend and family and community also. It’s more helpful for us.”
– Community Tester

By using plain language, simple layouts, and structured information, we’ve helped reduce diagnostic delays, improved patient understanding, and supported clearer communication between GPs and their patients.

“The brochures look amazing! I am especially impressed by how clear the table version has become.”
– Linghan Jai, CONSEP Trial Manager, Monash University

Our materials are now being shared across Australia and are being translated into additional languages for day-to-day use by health educators.

“Consumers like them. They look clear, easy to understand.”
– Jun Yan, Chief Investigator, Primary Aldosteronism Centre of Research Excellence (PACE)

At Enliven, we provide document conversions and plain language training, because clear communication makes a difference. Plain language is what we do, and we thrived on the challenge of bringing clarity to this complex project.
