Retirement navigator tool + guide
The judges described the Retirement Navigator as an outstanding digital tool. It makes the complex and sensitive topic of retirement finance approachable and empowering. The tool combines clear language and thoughtful design to guide users with confidence.
The language is simple, precise, and conversational. It avoids jargon, and financial terms are explained in an accessible way. The judges also praised the tool’s intuitive structure, which guides users through the process with a clear progression.
The tool’s professional design uses clean layout and interactive elements like sliders and charts to help understanding. These features engage users without being overwhelming. The judges noted that extensive user testing helped to create a tool that sets a high standard for financial education and empowers people to make informed decisions.
We’re delighted that the Sorted Retirement Navigator has won a Plain Language Award.
This recognition reflects Sorted’s dedication to making money matters easier to understand for New Zealanders. The Retirement Navigator is the first of its kind in Aotearoa — offering free, impartial guidance to help people combine their KiwiSaver and NZ Super into a sustainable income.
Plain language is at the core of Sorted.org.nz — it’s how we make financial topics easier to understand and more accessible for everyone in Aotearoa. We are grateful to the Retirement Income
Interest Group (RIIG) of the New Zealand Society of Actuaries and digital agency Toast, who played a critical role in the complex challenge that was designing this tool. We hope that the
Retirement Navigator can help people feel more empowered heading into retirement, supporting confident planning over what can be a 25-year+ period.
Our thanks to the Plain Language Awards team for championing clarity and recognising the importance of making financial information accessible to all.
