The future of our coastline

Judges comments

The document is well written and the content is focused on issues the reader should consider.

The purpose of the document is made clear in the title and introductory sentence. The content supports the purpose of the document very well.

The document has a clear structure. It explains the issue, with a supporting graphic, and outlines two options. It moves from general issues to detailed plans and timescales.

The layout and presentation help the reader to absorb messages quickly and easily. Both the web and print versions were nicely designed, with good use of font, colour, layout, visuals, and white space. Well done!

Media statement

The purpose of this proposal document was to gauge public sentiment ahead of a bigger consultation and difficult decisions, including funding.

We felt it was very important that people were engaged early, on what to do about coastal hazards caused by climate change.

We focused on explaining the problem and the impact of two different options for residents and ratepayers.

We’re thrilled to be named a finalist in the Best Plain Language Document — Public Sector category, acknowledging our work.
