Judges’ comment

We were very impressed by Z Energy’s zesty annual report. In addition to the financial content such reports must contain, this report engages readers with interesting, well-designed information presented in a refreshingly informal style. We particularly liked the use of photographs, infographics, and white space. We have judged many annual reports over the years and this one stands out as the most attractive and engaging. However, it is far from the most concise and we did wonder if it would be even better with slightly less content.

Z is accountable to a wide range of stakeholders: shareholders that own the company, customers that support us, staff that run the company and a whole range of others with an interest in our business.

Two of Z’s organisational values are ‘share everything’ and ‘be straight up’. These values determine how we communicate. There’s nothing straight up or consistent with sharing if your words are obscured with complex jargon and corporate bingo. We try and make all of our communications clear, easily understood and accessible and we really appreciate this nomination.
