Steph has a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics and Media Studies, and a Diploma in Editing, Proofreading and Book Publishing. In 2017, she won the Plain English Champion — Best Individual award at the Plain Language Awards.

For the last 9 years, Steph has worked in writing and publishing roles, championing the importance of plain language, writing style, and branding across her organisation’s communications. She’s part of the team responsible for researching, reviewing, and keeping their official writing style guide up to date. She develops and delivers practical letter and email writing workshops for the product-savvy teams in her workplace. The workshops are informal, conversational, and collaborative. They focus on showing teams how to plan and build strong customer communications from scratch.

Steph is currently a member of the board of the Technical Communicators Association of New Zealand, and is serving in their Student Outreach and Communications Coordinator roles.
