Matt joined the Ministry of Education in 2019 after working at Deloitte New Zealand. While at Deloitte — which won the 2014 Plain English Champion (Best Organisation) award — Matt led an internal campaign to promote plain English. This work helped establish him as a plain language expert and led to his invitation to be a judge for the Plain Language Awards.

In his current role, Matt continues to champion plain language. He is committed to making clear communication a priority at Te Tāhuhu o Mātauranga and throughout the public sector.
