Lead judge: Plain Language Champion — Best Organisation

Matt Huntington

Manager, engagement team, Te Pou Hanganga Matihiko | Infrastructure and Digital division, Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga | Ministry of Education, Wellington, New Zealand.

Before his current role, Matt worked at Deloitte New Zealand, a professional services firm that won the Plain English Champion — Best Organisation award in 2014

While at Deloitte, Matt led an internal initiative to promote the importance of using plain English. The firm’s subsequent win in the Plain English Awards established Matt as the go-to person for plain English expertise and caught our attention as a potential judge.

In his current role, Matt recognises the significance of using plain language when communicating with the Ministry’s diverse audiences — now more important than ever given the Plain Language Act 2022. Matt aspires to be a catalyst for change, advocating for plain language within Te Tāhuhu o Mātauranga and across the public sector.
