Judge: Best Plain Language Document — Private Sector

Editor, Plain English Foundation, Queensland, Australia

Emily is a plain language editor who works for one of Australia’s most well-known plain language training and editing companies. She’s worked on all kinds of documents, from annual reports and strategic plans to complaint resolution guides and industrial award clauses. Emily’s also developed style guides for clients and evaluated how well their writing meets the Foundation’s plain language benchmarks.

But she doesn’t just edit – she writes about plain language too, including a white paper comparing human editors and AI editing tools.

For Emily, plain language is all about choosing sophisticated, reader-centric structures, designs, and expression.

When plain language is done well, it’s a joy to behold. I love seeing writers successfully distil complex concepts in ways that support and engage readers.
